Yes, there is a catch. While the fare is $110, you’re paying over $1,000 in fuel surcharges and taxes, which brings the total to $1,157.12 CAD.

Where your money goes

Base fare	$110.00
Fuel surcharge (charged by the airline)	$800.00
Government taxes and airport fees	$247.12
Total	$1,157.12 CAD

The biggest catch: it’s a Basic fare

This price is for Air Canada’s Basic fare, the most restricted ticket they sell. Here’s what that means:

• No changes and no refunds. Once it’s booked, you can’t change your dates and you can’t get your money back. Only book it if your plans are set.
• Carry-on only. Checked bags aren’t included.
• Air Canada picks your seat. You don’t get to choose where you sit.

Why this matters

Airline sales often advertise the base fare. On flights to Europe, the fuel surcharge can be many times bigger than the fare itself, and the cheapest ticket usually comes with the most restrictions. Always compare the total price and what’s included, not the headline number. That’s the kind of fine print I check before you book.
